Earlier, Khajuraho was the cultural capital of Chandela Rajputs who ruled this part of India during 10th to 12th centuries AD. Khajuraho Temples were built by the Chandela monarchs over a span of 200 years. SANCHI STUPA, BHOPAL

SAS BAHU TEMPLE, GWALIOR

Located near Gwalior Fort, Sas Bahu Temple is a notable religious place in the city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and was originally named Sahastrabahu, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu with a thousand hands. However, due to mispronunciation, the name later changed to Sas Bahu Temple. Known for its brilliant architecture and beautiful carvings on red sandstone, the temple attracts devotees and architecture enthusiasts alike. he Sas-Bahu Temple is located in the eastern side of Gwalior Fort. The irony lies in the fact that as the name suggests it is not the temple of sas (mother-in-law) and bahu (daughter-in-law). The name emerged out of ‘sastrabahu’ which is another name of Lord Vishnu. The Sas-Bahu Temple is dedicated to one incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
It has carvings of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Godess Saraswathi on its door. There are two temple structures; one is small and the other is big. The temple is made of red sandstone with beautiful carvings of lotus. It has a pyramidal structure without any arches. It was built by King Mahipala of the Kachwaha dynasty in the 11th century.

Chaturbhuj Temple

The temple looks more like a multi-storeyed palace with a large entrance, arcaded openings, a huge central tower, and lotus emblems on the interior. Apart from devotees, history buffs and architecture enthusiasts frequent the temple.
The name Chaturbhuj literally means 'one who has four arms' and it refers to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. DHUANDAR FALL
