Uttarkashi is situated at a distance of 154 km from Rishikesh, on the Rishikesh Gangotri route. Uttarkashi is small town surrounded by hills. Uttarkashi town is called as shivanagri and somya Kashi. VISHWANATH TEMPLE
This temple is one of the most sacred temple in Uttarkashi. A trip to Uttarkashi is incomplete without a visit to the Vishwanath temple, one of the ancient and most holy of temples in the area, located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. A lot of pilgrims visit this temple during their Char Dham Yatra and spend time here meditating and enjoying the stunning views of the valley below. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

SHAKTI TEMPLE dedicated to goddess Parvati, is situated just opposite to the Vishwanath temple. The main attraction here is huge and heavy trisula. Located close to Viswanath temple, this place is known for a mighty Trishul, made of iron and copper. Gaumuk trek (Ganga’s Home)
The trekking trail to Gaumukh tapovan starts at Gangotri.it is well known pilgrim. Gomukh is the source of the Bhagirathi River in Gangotri Glacier, one of the primary headstreams of the Ganges River. The place is situated at a height of 13,200 ft (4,023 m) in Uttarkashi district. Gangotri temple
Gangotri Temple, the highest temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is one of the four Chota Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. Goddess Ganga is the personification of the revered Ganga River. The peaceful white temple is surrounded by Deodar and pines and the Greater Himalayan Range. The holy river Bhagirathi, which is one of the two head-streams of Ganga, flows alongside Gangotri Temple. There are five small shikhars,20ft in height. The main sanctorum or the garb girah is built on a raised platform. The inner sanctorum has the idol of goddess ganga. There are four little temples dedicated to lord Shiva, Ganesh, hanuman, and Bhagirathi.
Near the Gangotri temple. There is a natural rock shivaling in submerged under water. It is also known as Kalp Kedar and it is believed to be present from the time of Mahabharata. Not everyone is aware of this hidden spot but the people who know about this place never miss to visit once in the year.

The trek to KedarTal commences from Gangotri. You can easily reach by any means of road transport to Gangotri from Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh. From Gangotri, this 18 km trek is advised to complete in three days so that you can acclimatize well at high altitude. But you can also complete this trek in two days.

How to reach
The most convenient way to reach the trek route is by reaching Dehradun railway station first and then taking any vehicle from there which will be approximately a distance of 201 kms.
if you wish to come by flight, then the nearest airport would be the Jolly Grant Airport from where you can avail any vehicle where you will need to cover a distance of almost 207 kms. You will not face any issues about hiring vehicles for the ride as the service is quite smooth. These cars will drop you near Sangamchatti where the Dodital trek route starts.

Dodi tal lake(hidden paradise)
Dodital cocooned amidst the benedictory pines is a fresh water lake of UttarakhandAssi ganga rises from Dodital and joins Bhagirathi. The confluence is at Gangotri.

Harsil(Astonishing Mountains)

The panoramic view of the Himalayas from Dayara Bugyal is breath-taking. The bugyal gets entirely covered in snow as it appears as tiny shining diamonds scattered all over the ground. As far as the eye can look, there is a sheet of white cover. Situated at an elevation of about 3750 m, Dayara Bugyal is second to none in natural beauty and perfect for the beginners. Dayara Bugyal trek goes through open stretches and dense forest at different places. The temperatures drop up to -5 degree Celsius during the nights. Each and every campsite on the trail of this trek is extremely beautiful and scenic.

YAMUNOTRI TEMPLE
The holy abode of Goddess Yamuna is situated near the foot of KalindParbat (peak) and on a side of Banderpoonch Parbat. Nestled in the intimidating Himalayas, Yamunotri temple is believed to be constructed by the king of Tehri, Naresh Sudarshan Shah in 1839. One of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites, the stunning setting of the temple is enough to fill the hearts of the devotees with wonder. Yamuna River jets down from one side of the temple, which houses Goddess Yamuna in the form of a black marble idol. Ganga Devi too finds her place, in white stone, by the side of Yamuna.
The temple of Yamuna closes its portals as winter approaches on Yama Dwitiya (second day after Diwali or on Bhai Dooj). Devi's winter address is Kharsali village where she reaches in a palanquin and will remain for the entire period of winters. On Akshaya Tritiya (occurring on April/May), the goddess comes back to grace Yamunotri again. Both closing and opening ceremonies of the Yamunotri shrine are brought about with celebrations, elaborate rituals and vedic chants.
DIVVYA SHILA is a rock piller, situated closed to the yamunotritemple and surya kund. Located at 3000 metres high, this rock pillar next to Surya Kund is another pilgrim attraction.

SURYA KUND (THE POND OF THE SUN)
Surya kund seves as a holy place as its is located in the vicinity of yamunotri shrine. This hot water spring is dedicated to the Sun God, believed to be the father of Yamuna. Devotees often fasten rice and potatoes in a cotton cloth, and dip it in the water to be cooked. This cooked food is then offered to the temple. After offering it to the temple deity, the prasad is taken back home.

JANKI CHATTI

Just off Janki Chattiis Kharsali, a lovely picnic spot sprinkled with a number of thermal springs, water falls and rolling meadows covered by Oaks and conifers. Lord Shiva in the Someshwar form inhabits an ancient 3-storied temple with beautiful wood work and stone carvings.

On the foothill of surya kund is hanuman chatti 13 km off yamnutori.The place marks the confluence by lush Himalayan greenery. The place is also dotted with numerous small temple.
Badkot
49 km off Yamunotri is Badkot, famous for its ancient temples and shrines. Barkot is the last big town near Yamunotri dham.
Tapovan trek
Tapovan is a naturally diverse area carpeted by the lush green grasslands that are considered to be the best high-altitude grasslands in India. Nandanvan covers two major spots. The first one is the Gangotri. Cross the glacier to reach Gaumukh and finally leaving Bhagirathi peak by your side reach the place, whose beauty can even cover the excellence of heaven. In the trek route you will have to cover several small snow covered peaks and glaciers. The best thing that you will find in this trek is to see the origin of the Holy Ganga. Throughout the route, you will find several high-altitude peaks on either side. Among them, Shivling and Bhagirathi will follow you till end.

Administration of Uttarkashi found a new unique way at the altitude of 11000 feet which is situated in Jaal Ganga Valley at the border of India & Chaina. Half km long Garthang Gali was one of the main routes of business of India & Tibet in 1962. This path was founded by the Pathan's of Pesawer (in Pakistan) in 17 century. If we have a look on history we will see that in ancient time this valley was a path of business with Tibet via Uttarkashi. The Administration says this was the path of business in ancient time of Badhat or Tibet and Ganga Valley. In there Garthang Gali's name is in history. At the time of war between India & Chaina in 1962 Government of India moved the 04 Bhutia community villages Nelong & Jahan villages & prohibited the place. Now this Garthang Gali is open for all the visitors and valley will be more adventures & thrilling as you are walking on 11000 Feet (3666 Mts) on the small path. By Air : Nelong Valley is located at the Bharoghati (Near Gangotri) have to take permission from Forest Department & they will provide you jeep to go Nelong valley which is 27 Kms from Bheroghati. By Road: Nelong valley is the best-kept secret of Uttarkashi district. This irresistible valley is situated near Harsil and is well connected by motorable roads to like Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar. On reaching Bhairav Ghati, the Forest Department jeep will take you to Nelong Valley.
You can hire cab or take a shared vehicle in early morning from here and reach Bhairo Ghati that is few kilometres away from the Gangotri shrine. Then, hire forest department provided gypsies from BhairoGhati to Nelong Valley.

How to reach
By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun offers daily connectivity with New Delhi and other major Indian cities as well.
By Road: Every morning at 6-8 am there are few buses to Sankrileaves from outside Dehradun Railway Station. Roadways buses takes 9-10 hours to reach Sankri and most of the direct ply early in the morning from Dehradun. You can also book a cab to Sankri from Dehradun in 7-8 hours as well.
By Rail: The Dehradun Railway Station is well-connected with various major Indian cities like Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata etc. The frequency of trains to Dehradun is quite high as it is the gateway to the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
Best time to visit: Generally, most trekking enthusiasts undertake this trek anytime during the months of May to October, which as a safe weather condition and better predictable conditions of trekking.
